In everyday life, these tendencies track practical gains and losses, steady relationships and the atmosphere first, and care whether an offense is acknowledged.
In shadow mode, politeness may become cover and access to resources may be used for delayed retaliation. Wanting an apology and accountability does not by itself show that someone will retaliate.

When ‘it’s fine’ is only meant to lower someone’s guard before striking back elsewhere, restraint has turned into covert retaliation.
Like the Broker, the Smiler cultivates relationships and keeps up appearances, but has more trouble moving on once the original objective is restored. Like the Pursuer, the Smiler keeps score; the difference is that its retaliation stays behind a friendly façade, while the Pursuer chases openly.
